How we check LLC fees

Every state fee on this site comes from the state's own website (Secretary of State, Department of Revenue or Comptroller). Every service price comes from the company's own website or order form. We do not copy numbers from other comparison sites.

Checked by a script, with a date

A script opens each official page and confirms that the amount we show is on it, next to the right description. Only then does the amount get a "checked" date. If an amount cannot be confirmed, we show "?" instead of a guess. We cover 51 jurisdictions (50 states + DC) and 10 formation services.

Pages we can't reach automatically

A few state websites block visitors from outside the US or automated readers. Those are checked by hand. Where we used an archived copy of the official page (archive.org), the page says so, with the date of the copy.

What the totals include

Totals cover the state's formation fee and its fixed yearly fees, the service package and renewals, and a registered agent when the package does not include one. They do not include newspaper publication, business licenses, or taxes that depend on profit or revenue.

How we earn money

Some links are affiliate links: we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Rankings are based on cost only; a company that pays us is not moved up.
